Monkey Cake

Hubby and I made a cake – he made the cake part and I decorated it! I wanted to do more, specifically adding some vines all around the sides but just ran out of time unfortunately.

Next time we’ll bake the cake the day before so it can full cool and “shrink”. We had one 9″ round of cake left and left it in the pan while we were gone last night and this morning it had shrunk down quite a bit. That would explain why my fondant didn’t look as good by the time we ate it last night, I think the cake did shrink a little bit. But, lesson learned!

I think it was cute, not professional quality or anything, but it’s the second time we’ve used fondant and so we’re still just learning.

It was for hubby’s twin cousins (one of which loves monkeys and the other who loves pink). The cake was a marbled chocolate and vanilla with a chocolate cream filling. The fondant was from the local cake supply store and was actually pretty good. I’ll never buy the Wilton’s brand again! Yuck.
