Em’s 18 month and Kirby’s 4 yr dr. visits – all rolled into one big nightmare

, ,

Oh my freaking’ crap. I will never EVER schedule their appts together/back-to-back. What a nightmare!! *sigh*

Ok, well they’re both doing fine, I guess, the dr. really didn’t do or say much. I think she is kind of an idiot and I will not be seeing her again anyway.

So they had me get them both stripped down to their diapers, and so I did and we wait. And wait a little more. Kirby is already very anxious and fearful, he hates dr. visits.

Then when she gets in there she spends 15 minutes asking questions. WHY ARE THEY UNDRESSED FOR THIS PART.

She asks what Monkey is eating and wants to make sure she’s drinking her milk. I said yes, she has some but she is also still nursing. *insert stunned look from dr.*

Then she proceeds to tell me that it’s bad for MY health to nurse while pregnant that I *can’t* feed three people at once.

I looked at her square in the face and said, nicely, “that is incorrect, it’s perfectly fine”. She didn’t say another word about it. Wow, if she was really confident that it’s bad for my health, dontcha think she would have pursued it and/or maybe gave me reasons why it’s bad? Good grief. And man, I feel bad for people who nurse twins, they can’t possibly do that, can they?

Anyway, she also asks if I have any concerns about Monkey and I mention her speech. She just types a note into Em’s file on the computer then just goes on to the next question. And NEVER mentions it again the whole visit. WTF?? I didn’t really want her “expert” input anyway, I just thought that was weird.

So after all the questions and poking and prodding the kids screamed for like 10 minutes while I got them dressed and outside. Lovely.

And while the nurses were all great, the doctor during the exam manhandled Kirby and I told her to stop. Don’t you think kids who are undressed might be a little wary of strangers making them lay down, picking them up suddenly and doing all sorts of weird things to them? And then add the autism on top of it. Sheesh, I pushed the dr. aside at one point and said ok, we’re done and pulled Kirby away.

Overall Monkey is like at 50% percentile for weight and like 75% for height. She’s definitely thinned out, she was almost 75% for both a while ago (she never had her 12 month visit, bad mommy). She’s fine developmentally the dr. said, based on the 5 short questions she asked me.

Kirby is around 50% for weight and about 70% for height, which is way up on the weight. He’d always been 25%.

That’s about it.
