I’ve been thinking a lot about the thing he said about the little seizures and while looking online last night about hypotonia I followed a few links and found some info about the startle reflex being linked to seizures and whatnot. We (dh and I) always remember how “funny” it was that Kirby had that startle reflex so much and it didn’t go away until he was several months old. Well apparently that’s not normal and could have been little seizures.
Also, Kirby does this thing when he’s upset or mad where he suddenly tenses up his arms and hands (and his fingers curl into claw-like form) and he kind of trembles. He stares at his hands (they are up by his face) while doing this and it lasts about 2-3 seconds. It would only happen occasionally and it looked like it was just something he did because he was upset, like how people make a tight fist or something when they’re really mad. But it’s happening more and more often now. The more I think about it the more it seems like these could be small seizures. When they’re over, he’s suddenly fine and “snaps out of it”. I mentioned it during his eval but it’s happening more even since then (end of July).
Anyway, I don’t know…I guess I’m just rambling. I got really upset last night because as I was following links I read about terrible things like Tay Sachs disease. This freaked me out because he has so many symptoms of it and children with this only live until like 4 or 5. And it’s mostly prevalent in Ashkenazi Jews which is what Daddy’s family is. :(
