Well, we saw that holistic doctor…his office is actually titled “Environmental Medical Center” so I don’t know what he’s technically called, he’s just not “conventional”. Anyway, we’re going to do an elimination diet with wheat, corn & sugar. Fun fun. It’s 5 days with NONE of those, then introducing one back on the sixth day, checking for ANY kind of reaction or difference in behavior, skipping a day then adding the next one, etc. The thing with this is it won’t just check for allergic reactions. I don’t think he’s allergic to certain types of food but I do believe that he has other negative reactions that wouldn’t show up on an allergy test. I think I will give more time before adding each one back in though to get a better idea. He said that’s ok.
We’re also doing this thing where he takes these pills for a few weeks and then at the end we send in a stool sample. This is for heavy metals testing and whatnot. It’s more accurate than the hair test. And we go back in 3 weeks and he will want to start him on some supplements. He has seen many autistic children and most have had amazing results. Parents have come back to his office in tears because of what he has done for their child. So I have some home. Some. I’m not getting my hopes up too high because we all know what that can do.
We also just got his exit report from the tutoring he’s had since December. When he went in, his overall developmental score (this is according to the PEP-R…so basically just one standardized test so it’s not a complete view of him but anyway):
December 2004: 16-20 months
March 2005: 19-24 months
August 2005: 30-35 months
So yeah, according to this overall score he’s at his age level, but he scored way above on Eye-Hand and Gross Motor which help level out the way low score he got on verbal. So it’s not really a measure, but it basically shows how much he has improved overall, which is obviously great! Anyway, he’s not in any kind of school or program this month and already I feel like he’s losing some stuff – or maybe he’s just being lazy. I need to continue working with him so he doesn’t forget. That’s about it.
