We received the EI specialist’s “official” report in the mail today with his results…

One of the tests was the Bayley Scales of Infant Development – 2nd Ed. (BSID-II). The mean (average) score is 100 with a standard deviation of 15 – “normal” is 85-115.

For the Mental Scale, his score says “(less than) 50” which classifies him as “Significantly Delayed” and the age equivalent is 11 months. He is just over 20 months old and his cognitive level is that of an 11 month old.

The other test that was done were the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales. Same scoring is used as with the Bayley (100 is average “normal”):

Age Equivalency – 8 mos.
Adaptive Level – Low

Daily Living Skills – 77

Age Equivalency – 24 mos.

Fine Motor Skills
Adaptive Level – Mod. Low
Age Equivalency – 12 mos.

Adaptive Behavior Composite: 14 mos.

Comments:

The delays in communication and social skills, as well as some of Zachary’s behaviors, are developmental red flags for autism spectrum disorder. It was suggested that the parents consider scheduling an autism evaluation for their son to assess this possibility.
