Daddy woke up at 10:30pm last night to get ready for work (I was still awake) and he felt very funny and his heart was beating very hard and very irregularly. Three years ago he was in the hospital for 2 days because of this same thing. He has Atrial Fibrillation and it’s very rare for someone under age 30 to have, much less twice. I’m going to go see him soon. If his heart rate doesn’t convert to normal rhythm on it’s own, they will first give medication to do it and if it still doesn’t do it, then they have to do it electrically. Basically they would send an electrical current to temporarily stop his heart (just for a moment) and so when it starts beating again it’s usually regular. We DON’T want to have to do this. Last time, he converted about 5 minutes before they were going to take him to do this. It’s not a good thing. Also, people with A Fib have a 35% chance of having a stroke so they had to give him cumadin (sp) which is a blood thinning medication. They said you can’t even floss your teeth when you’re on this stuff because your gums will never stop bleeding. They said he may have to be on that medication for the rest of his life. :( And our old cardiologist said that when Daddy’s around 40 he’ll probably have to get a pacemaker. :( :( Anyway, so it really sucks. We don’t know what’s causing it but the cardiologist here seems like he really wants to find out. Our last dr. just said it’s a freak thing and most likely will never happen again. Thanks doc. I don’t think I’ve ever asked for prayers before, but if you could say a little prayer for Daddy that his heart is ok and stays healthy…and no strokes please.
