Here is a sort of glossary of terms and a list of abbreviations used in my blog with regards to parenting, pregnancy, and medical stuff.

Family Members

These are just short and quick ways of talking about family members without writing their names.

Kirby or Mr. Kirby = my son

Silly Monkey or Monkey = my older daughter

Squishy = my younger daughter

Mom = me!

Dad = my husband

DD – dear daughter

DS – dear son

DH – dear husband

FIL – father in law

IL – in law(s)

MIL – mother in law

Surrogacy

GS – gestational surrogate: This kind of surrogate does not contribute eggs/DNA to the child, she is implanted with embryos provided by the intended parents (IPs) via in vitro fertilization (IVF).

IF – intended father, could also be IFs for “intended fathers” (usually meaning a same sex male couple)

IM – intended mother, could also be IMs for “intended mothers” (usually meaning a same sex female couple)

IP or IPs – intended parent(s): These are the people who the surrogate carries the bab(ies) for.

IVF – in vitro fertilization: The process of implanting the embryos into the surrogate uterus.

RE – reproductive endocrinologist: The fertility doctor.

Pregnancy & Parenting

BF – breastfeed, also BF’d meaning breastfed

HPT – home pregnancy test

NIP – nursing in public

2WW – two week wait: This is the waiting period between the IVF and finding out if you’re pregnant!
